Medical imaging AI company Phantomics is partnering with the Cardiac Imaging Center at Asan Medical Center’s Heart Institute to develop a new protocol aimed at popularizing cardiac MRI.
Phantomics announced hat it has signed a radiological consulting agreement with Professor Dong Hyun Yang's research team from the Cardiac Imaging Center at Asan Medical Center's Heart Institute to present a new paradigm in cardiac MRI imaging and analysis technologies.
The primary goal of this agreement is to reduce the cardiac MRI scan time from over 50 minutes to under 30 minutes, thus popularizing cardiac MRI and significantly improving early diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases.
The company explained that while cardiac MRI and CT are essential for the early detection of cardiovascular diseases—the second leading cause of death in Korea according to Statistics Korea (2023)—challenges have persisted due to the high level of expertise required and the relatively long scan times, attributed to the constant motion of the heart.
By leveraging its AI-powered precision analysis technology and the extensive clinical experience of Asan Medical Center, Phantomics plans to develop a cardiac MRI protocol that reduces scan times to under 30 minutes. The company also aims to introduce this protocol to the health checkup market, making cardiac MRI more accessible to the general population.
The two organizations will collaborate to actively research practical imaging and analysis protocols for medical use, focusing on stable image quality, short scan times, and easy standardization. They also plan to expand their joint research to include the development of cardiac health checkup programs in the future.
A representative from Phantomics stated, "A cardiac MRI protocol that takes less than 30 minutes is a key technology for accelerating the popularization of cardiac MRI. We anticipate it will transform not only the health checkup market but also the broader field of cardiac disease treatment. We will continue to work closely with Asan Medical Center to pioneer new frontiers in the preventive healthcare industry."
Phantomics, a startup founded by faculty members of Yonsei University’s Severance Hospital, has developed “Myomics,” an AI-powered solution that reduces post-scan cardiac MRI image analysis time from 20–30 minutes to less than two minutes while ensuring high diagnostic accuracy.
